David Sibbald is the Executive Chairman of Sumerian, which he founded in 2002, and Executive Chairman of Aridhia Informatics, a health informatics company he co-founded in 2007. Prior to founding Sumerian and Aridhia, David was the Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Atlantech Technologies, a communications software company which he founded in 1992 and sold to Cisco systems in March 2000 for $180M.
David is the Founder and Trustee of the Kate MacAskill Foundation, a charitable organisation providing education, care and micro-enterprise funding for children and young adults in the developing world. He is Chairman of the Johari Foundation and is a Vice-President of UK UNICEF, the United Nations children's fund. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from Glasgow Caledonian University, the University of Paisley and the University of Strathclyde for services to Scottish science and philanthropy. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland's National Academy of Science and Letters. In the 2010 New Year Honours List, David was awarded an OBE for charitable services in Scotland and overseas.
Martin Velasco is an entrepreneur and Business Angel with extensive experience in the IT, medical and biotech areas. He is considered a leading European Business Angel by the Wall Street Journal, and one of the leaders of European change by Business Week.
He serves on the board/advisory board of several high-tech companies including: Anecova, an assisted reproductive technology (ART) company and World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer 2008, as Founder and Chairman; AC-Immune, a leader in Alzheimer's disease drug development and World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer 2009, as Chairman; Cocomore, a digital communications agency & IT services firm, as Chairman of the Supervisory Board; and Aridhia, a Health Informatics company, as Board Member.
Martin is also the Founder and Chairman of Infantia Foundation, a philanthropic organisation aiding children in the developing world. He is a member of the Board of BlueOrchard, the leading private microfinance investment advisory company; Vice President of the Board of the Foundation EPFL+; and Vice Chairman of the European Tech Tour Association.
Bryan joined Sumerian in 2011 with over 30 years of extensive industry experience working in enterprise business technology. Most recently Bryan was a Partner and CIO at KPMG, where he led the technology integration of the largest KPMG European firms as they created a new pan-European business with over 30,000 staff. In his time at KPMG Bryan also led a variety of strategic innovation initiatives, improving efficiency and quality through offshoring, consolidation and exploiting technology advances.
Prior to this, Bryan worked at EDS, focussing on outsourcing for the Oil and Gas, Electricity and Financial Services industries. For the first ten years of his career, Bryan worked in a number of analytics roles including: MOD (marine power plant simulations), Lloyd’s Register (safety and reliability simulations), Marathon Oil (operations research) and Admiral Computing (dealing systems, traded option valuation models).
Joan is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years' experience in a variety of senior financial positions across a number of different sectors. Those include Chief Financial Officer of Orbital Software Holdings PLC, Deputy Managing Director and Financial Director of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Ltd, and Group Financial Controller of Kwik-Fit Holdings PLC.
Joan joined Sumerian in July 2004 and is primarily responsible for the finance and administration function.
David is a Partner at Brodies LLP, one of Scotland's leading corporate and commercial law practices, and is also a non-executive Director of Sumerian.
In his professional capacity, David specialises in M&A, private equity and AIM. He has particular interest in fund-raising and has acted for many businesses, from start-ups to listed companies, in connection with funding.
As non-executive Director of Sumerian, David advises Sumerian on funding, IP, contractual matters and compliance.
Calum is Managing Partner at Scottish Equity Partners (SEP) and one of the UK's most experienced and respected venture capital practitioners. He was SEP's founder and has led its development into one of Europe's leading venture firms. He has been responsible for many of the its most successful investments in early stage and emerging growth technology companies over the years.
In addition to leading SEP's venture capital team, Calum works closely with a number of the firm's investee companies. He also leads the firm's fundraising activities and plays a principal role in maintaining relationships with SEP's blue chip investor base.
