The sheer number of products and tools to manage the IT environment can be bewildering - leaving managers dealing with even more complexity, a heavier workload, and often unanswerable questions about how well IT is performing for the business.
In many cases, organisations will have literally hundreds of products for network management, systems management, performance tracking, service level management, capacity planning, log analyzers, event correlation, root cause analysis - on and on it goes. Factor in the different environments, platforms and legacy versions that need to be managed and you can see how the product count mounts up and becomes even more unmanageable.
