Sumerian Newsletter

Welcome to our Spring 2011 newsletter

Hello,

It's always great to kick-off with some good news - so it's with real pleasure that I can announce that Sumerian has just been named as one of analyst firm Gartner's "Cool Vendors" for 2011. This is a truly exciting development for us and clearly demonstrates just how well the industry is viewing our services. You can read the full press release and access a complimentary copy of the report here.

In other news, 2011 is already shaping up to be one of our busiest years yet, both in terms of meeting new clients and the sheer spectrum of challenges we are being invited to work on. We cover a number of these areas in the downloads and further reading section of our site - from using analytics to help overcome application complexity, latency reduction and trading optimisation, informing and rightsizing cloud initiatives, to effectively managing virtualised environments.

As always, it's great to hear your views and feedback on our services or anything you've read here. And please let us know if there are any topics you would like us to cover in our next edition.

Calum Smeaton,
Sumerian CEO

From the Sumerian blog: What is latency?

The dictionary definition of latency is fairly straightforward, but its generality highlights some of the challenges in defining latency within trading systems: what stimuli and responses are we talking about?

In this blog post by Sumerian CTO Peter Duffy, we take an indepth look at the various different types of latency that need to be considered when optimising your trading applications.

Maximising cloud initiatives

Cloud, regardless of the hype, is starting to gain widespread traction and credibility through open declarations of its use.

In this new white paper from Sumerian, we explore how  IT Analytics supplies the necessary multi-dimensional analysis of all key considerations (cost, risk and impact) that are required to ensure initiatives successfully realise their objectives

Analyst interview: Virtualisation

"We take vast quantities of data from virtualised environments and distil it to real, actionable insight."

Sumerian Analyst Nick Maher explains how our analytics are helping clients manage and optimise their virtualised environments with improved visibility.

As a valued contact and industry colleague, I’d like to personally introduce you to Sumerian and let you know about its recent expansion to the US.

JoKinsellaSumerian’s unique analytics services are giving global investment banks and financial sector companies the insight to make better, faster decisions and align IT accurately to drive business performance.

The expansion, and my recent appointment heading up Sumerian’s US operations, comes at a time when the company is seeing some fantastic client results and industry recognition. Topping that list is Sumerian being named an AFTA finalist for a client implementation in the category of "Best Infrastructure Initiative”.

You may have also seen some industry buzz for Sumerian on Waters, A-Team and TABB Group forums. Our work around understanding the true, holistic latency resident in trading systems has been particularly welcomed by the industry and is a testament to the innovative analytics being carried out in this space.

If you’re new to Sumerian, please take a look at our website for a quick overview of our services and to meet the team. You can also follow us on Twitter and Linked-In too. In fact, we’re offering an iPod nano to one lucky Twitter follower – simply follow us on Twitter for your chance to win (terms and conditions on our website).

In the meantime, I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving holiday, and hope to speak to you soon.
